Grace Acres Farm brings you fresh
products throughout the year. |
In 1997, we bought our first house on one acre to give farming a try. We were city kids, we thought we would be farming on one
acre! It turns out you can do a lot on an acre and we quickly filled it up with an assortment of animals. We loved it and
realized we needed a bit more room. In 2002, we bought our present home on five acres in Roy and this is where we hope to stay. Five
acres gives us room to move around, but is manageable for a hobby farm. We have rabbits, chickens, turkeys, ducks, goats, a zebu
(miniature cow) and a couple of horses. We are very interested in natural and organic farming methods and try to use organic feed
whenever possible. We have not been able to find quality organic alfalfa or hay, but the grain we use is certified organic. We
use kelp as our mineral supplement and have been thrilled with the health results in our animals.

Our chickens and ducks are free range providing healthy, nutritious eggs in an assortment of colors. We have white and light
blue duck eggs and white, brown and green/blue chicken eggs. Don't worry, only the shell is colored, the egg is still normal!
You can use duck eggs in baking for a richer, fuller taste or for those who are egg connoisseurs, use them whenever you would
use chicken eggs for enhanced flavor. We raise turkeys for holiday dinners and an occasional special meal. Farm raised turkey
is amazing! Once you have one, be prepared, you won't want to buy a 69¢/pound turkey ever again. They are moist and flavorful
and will be the dinner you talk about long after the decorations are down. Of course, you do have to cook it right, it's not a
self baking turkey! If you need a recipe, just ask, we love to share.

We chose the Nubian breed of goat for the high butterfat content in the milk, making it taste sweet. Their goat milk is
the best we have ever tasted. If you like cow milk, Nubians are for you. If you want the exotic goat flavor in milk,
choose a different breed. Goats aren't just for milk, though. You can train a goat to carry a pack and take it hiking or
camping. You can also train them to pull carts. Goats are not grazers (grass eaters), but browsers and they are excellent
at clearing brush. If you are considering goats, we highly recommend Nubians and would love to talk to you about them.

We have two meat/fur breeds of rabbit. If you are politically correct, you should probably leave our site now. If you are
politically incorrect, read on! The Rex rabbits have the softest fur, making you feel like you're floating when you pet
them. You instantly think of a fire in the fireplace and a warm cozy rabbit fur blanket. Oooh!! The meat is good, too! The
American Chinchilla has unique fur, soft also, but it is the color pattern that is amazing. They are larger than the Rex,
so you get more meat.

The farm doesn't keep us busy enough, so we homeschool our two children to keep life interesting! If you're in the area
and homeschool, we'd love to hear from you. We enjoy having visitors, so add us to your field trip list and let us know
when you'd like to come out. You don't homeschool and you still want to come out? Well, we'd love to have you also! We
don't have regular store hours, so give us a call before heading out to make sure we'll be here. Thank you for stopping
by the Grace Acres Farm web site! Questions and comments are always welcome and please come again!
